About Paul Ross
“Photography is a way of lives.”
bio
I was born in L.A. and have lived many places because I started roving early on. Now I travel globally –and the world is my Goldilocks zone. Whether video editing in a studio in Tunis or hitching a ride on a seaplane from the remote island of Mog Mog, my images are always about the people I meet and my excitement at being able to draw others into the experiences that I see and document. And, to that end, I prefer natural light.
education/early work history
I received a B.A. in Journalism from Boston U’s College of Public Communications, and I’ve worked both sides of the force (hard news and advertising). For the latter, I provided concept and multi-media for entertainment clients as a full-service creative. I conceived, wrote, produced, directed, shot stills and video, designed, and voiced campaigns for all the major film and television studios, and even a few theme parks (including one where I morphed brewing into an infotainment ride).
I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico, but cover the world as a Travel & Culture Photo Journalist, contributing to more than 70 international publications.
I photograph and write about travel, the arts, personalities, history, culture, food, drink, and strange or unusual places, people, and events. Whenever possible, I sprinkle my content with humor.
I also teach photography and writing and sometimes lead trips to exotic locales.
